Materials Advantage & Disadvantage
ABS:
ADVANTAGE: High strength, good toughness, stable in performance
DISADVANTAGE: Prone to cracking if cooled too quickly, has an odor like burning the plastic when it is being printed
PLA:
ADVANTAGE: can be biodegradable, small shrinkage; Non-toxic, stable in performance, smell like corn;
DISADVANTAGE: Can droop if it gets too hot, for example, if it is left in a hot car in the summer time
PVA:
ADVANTAGE: dissolvable in water; used to printer support part, Non-toxic, stable in performance
DISADVANTAGE: Very soft, cannot use very widely
NYLON / PA:
ADVANTAGE: Highest strength & toughness; suitable for molded parts
DISADVANTAGE: The water absorption is higher than all of the other material and melt point much higher
PC:
ADVANTAGE: High strength, good toughness; transparent color like the glass
DISANTAGE: For the transparent material, the colors will look not so dark, so not suitable for
grey,gold or silver.
ABS, Conductive:
ADVANTAGE: conductive electricity, weakly electropositive elements, anti-static and
Electromagnetic shielding
DISADVANTAGE: can do only black color
PETG:
ADVANTAGE: acid and alkali resistance, can use very widely
POM: Nearly same as nylon, only the strength is a little lower than Nylon, but more
cheaper than Nylon
HIPS:
ADVANTAGE: High strength, good toughness, impact resistance, stable in performance;
can dissolve in limonene
DISADVANTAGE: Has an odor like burning the plastic when it is being printed
WOOD:
ADVANTAGE: Light weight, printed objects look like the wood, which can Nail, drill and
Engrave
DISADVANTAGE: When the nozzle is heating, don’t wait for a long time,
otherwise will easy to burn wood powder
TPU/FLEXIBLE:
ADVANTAGE: Good flexibility and can be repeated stretching and be widely used in soft rubber
Demand
DISADVANTAGE: Because of its soft, may be stuck the gear, so need to high temperature and slow
printing and unblocked without resistance.
FLOURESENT ABS/PLA
ADVANTAGE: With fluorescent effect
GLOW-in-DARK ABS/PLA:
ADVANTAGE: can glow in dark
COLOR CHANGE by TEMPERATURE:
ADVANTAGE: When the temperature is 31 degree centigrade, the color will changed from one
color to another colors
